Agra, Uttar Pradesh : As part of its nationwide 100-city cybersecurity initiative, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BFL), India’s largest private NBFC under the Bajaj Finserv group, conducted a digital fraud awareness programme titled ‘Knockout Digital Fraud’ in Agra. The campaign is designed to equip citizens with practical knowledge to identify, avoid, and report cyber frauds that have become increasingly common in India’s growing digital economy.

Campaign aligned with RBI’s 2024 fraud risk guidelines
The initiative aligns with the Reserve Bank of India’s 2024 guidelines on fraud risk management for NBFCs, which emphasize early detection, employee accountability, and public outreach. Bajaj Finance aims to actively involve citizens in its cybersecurity mission by creating awareness about scams that misuse digital tools and impersonate financial institutions.

Focus on fake apps, websites, and impersonation frauds
During the event, experts highlighted common cyber threats such as fake social media accounts, WhatsApp groups, and look-alike websites that mimic genuine financial companies. These platforms are often used by fraudsters to deceive users into sharing sensitive information or transferring funds. The programme urged the public to remain cautious while interacting online, especially with unknown sources or unsolicited messages.

Expert advice from police and cyber cell
Addressing the session, Shri Vipin Chaudhary, cyber expert from UP Police, warned that “Data is the new gold,” and must be guarded carefully. He emphasized that fraudsters are now using emotional manipulation and fear-based tactics such as the “Digital Arrest” scam to trick people into parting with money. He advised attendees to avoid sharing personal schedules and photos online, and recommended securing their Aadhaar through the maadhaar.gov.in portal, as well as checking active mobile connections via sancharsathi.gov.in.

Ms. Uma Varshney, a cybercrime expert from Agra, spoke about the rise in financial frauds through phishing links and too-good-to-be-true offers. She urged people to never share OTP, PINs, or passwords—not even with someone claiming to be from their bank. Similarly, Cyber Expert Yogesh Kumar shared real-world examples of youth being scammed via gaming apps, and advised users to download apps only from verified sources.

Bajaj Finance reiterates commitment
A spokesperson from Bajaj Finance Ltd stated that consumer financial safety is a top priority for the company. The NBFC is actively issuing advisories through social media, SMS, and in-person engagements to ensure customers are aware of the risks and remain cyber secure. The ‘Knockout Digital Fraud’ campaign also includes interactive workshops, community outreach, and city-wide education drives.

Event saw participation from security and investigation officials
The Agra event was attended by notable dignitaries including Shri Sanjeev Singh from RCU Unit Delhi, retired police officer Shri Summer Yadav, and organising committee members Karan Gupta, Avinash Kashyap, and Akash Sharma. Their presence and inputs contributed to making the session informative and impactful.
