Insurance Murder: In a disturbing real-life crime that mirrors the plot of a popular film, a man in Telangana’s Siddipet district has been arrested for murdering his 60-year-old mother-in-law to fraudulently claim ₹60 lakh in life insurance benefits.

Gruesome Plot Modeled After ‘Drishyam’

The accused, Venkatesh, allegedly plotted the murder after securing multiple insurance policies in the name of the victim, Ramavva, through the Post Office and SBI Life Insurance. His intention: to stage her death as an accident and claim the insurance amount.

Police say Venkatesh lured Ramavva to a farm under the guise of work and later sent her home alone along a deserted stretch. There, an accomplice—promised a share of the insurance payout—ran her over with a vehicle to fake an accident.

How Police Cracked the Case

Though the murder initially appeared to be a road accident, local authorities began to suspect foul play. CCTV footage from the area and inconsistencies in Venkatesh’s account led police to dig deeper. Upon interrogation, Venkatesh confessed to planning the murder and admitted that he had taken inspiration from the movie Drishyam to cover up the crime.

Police and Public Reaction

Police have strongly condemned the incident, calling it a premeditated, cold-blooded crime driven by greed. Officials are also investigating the involvement of the accomplice and whether others were aware of the plot.

“This case is a grim reminder of how life insurance can be misused when ethical boundaries are lost,” said a senior investigating officer.

The Bigger Concern: Insurance Fraud

The murder has sparked public outrage and concern over insurance-related crimes. Authorities are now pushing for stricter scrutiny of large life insurance policies, especially when taken out by relatives of elderly individuals.
